This role is responsible for the strategic development, long-range planning, and tactical implementation of airport initiatives, ensuring that all activities—including daily operations, maintenance, budgeting, marketing, communications, and special projects—support the Airport’s mission to provide a safe, secure, efficient, and customer-focused environment for public and private aviation and related business activities. The position also requires maintaining consistent and proactive communication with FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and BOA (Bureau of Aeronautics) representatives to support ongoing airport expansion efforts and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Coordinate, monitor, and partner with the FBO (Fixed Base Operator) to ensure that the services of the airport and FBO meet and exceed standard requirements and expectations.
- Coordinate and perform airport maintenance operations—snow plowing, mowing, equipment upkeep, and minor repairs—in cooperation with City departments, seasonal staff, and contractors.
- Monitor mechanical and electrical systems; maintain a spare‑parts inventory to ensure continuous, safe operations.
- Supervise all aircraft movements (taxiing, take‑offs, landings) and conduct regular inspections of runways, taxiways, terminals, and grounds for compliance with FAA non‑hub standards and other applicable regulations.
- Direct terminal and building maintenance, groundskeeping, animal control, and pest‑management activities and ensure private building owners (hangers, FBO property, etc.) are meeting their requirements for similar activities.
- Facilitate services for transient aircraft, including storage, tie‑downs, and customer support.
- Acts as the project manager for preparing for airport expansion and airport expansion activities.
- Develop, implement, and maintain FAA‑aligned Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and an Airport Operations & Procedures Manual.
- Prepare, administer, and monitor the airport’s operating and capital budgets (Coordination with Community Development Director).
- Track revenues, expenditures, reserve balances, and grant funds (AIP, BIL, CARES Act, etc.). Account for all airport receipts and disbursements.
- Implement cost‑containment measures and eliminate redundant systems.
Minimum Training & Experience
- High School Diploma
- Associate’s degree in Airport Management or related field
- Five or more years’ experience in airport operations/management or any combination of education and experience as equivalent
- Private Pilot Certificate or working towards your Commercial Certificate
- Skill in operation of equipment and machinery including, but not limited to, truck, snowplow, power lawn mowers, mechanical hand tools, and carpenter tools
- Skill in aircraft ground handling procedure
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license
Salary and Benefits
