Essential Duties
Services, repairs and maintains Company vehicles and other mechanical equipment including portable and auxiliary generators, air compressors, mounted equipment, blowers and fork lifts. Responsible for conducting and accurately interpreting the results of diagnostic tests performed on computerized digital systems of vehicular/auxiliary equipment and for taking action to correct/repair system problems, as appropriate. Also responsible for insuring the safe operation and continued availability of Company vehicles for field forces use. Performs other related, marginal duties as required.
General Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
A. Services Company vehicles, compressor units and other related equipment according to set schedules and shop practices/procedures.
B. Uses precision tools, testing instruments and machines for diagnosing, analyzing and correcting trouble on computerized analog/digital systems.
C. Repairs mechanical trouble on Company vehicles and other mechanical equipment. Repairs bodies and fenders using MIG/ARC/gas welding equipment.
D. Performs vehicle and equipment repairs on aerial units, air brakes, and refrigeration units. Also performs repairs to air conditioning and system recharging (in compliance with EPA requirements), component diagnostic trouble shooting, auto electrical repair, automotive overhaul, and other general automotive repairs.
E. Performs hydraulic repairs. Includes repairs to forklift and backhoe equipment.
F. Provides guidance and direction to Mechanics/Mechanic Helpers.
G. Performs City – County/DOT safety inspections and OSHA/ANSI aerial inspections on Company vehicles.
Operates Company and other vehicles as required.
May be required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.
Indoor-outdoor work with the majority of work being performed outdoors. Exposed to adverse weather conditions, noise, dust, grease, dirt, chemical irritants, etc.
Weekday, weekend, holiday work tours including day, evening, and night hours.
Subject to overtime and callout.
Basic Qualifications
Tests – Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company, in accordance with Company policy.
Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
Ability to lift, carry, push or pull heavy items such as engines (using a mechanical apparatus), transmissions, etc.
Ability to climb a ladder.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Requires alertness and attention to detail.
Ability to qualify for a valid CDL Class A State of Hawaii driver’ s license (includes operation of tractor-trailers and fuel tankers) within the first four months on the job. Must not be restricted to automatic transmission or daylight hours only. Able to meet medical and driver certification requirements as established by the DOT Federal Highway Safety Act.
Ability to accurately diagnose and correct engine, fuel/air system, electrical system and/or analog/digital computerized system problems in Company vehicles using diagnostic equipment.
Must qualify as a State of Hawaii Safety Inspector and a DOT Safety Inspector within the first four months on job.
Must have a registered or certified mechanic’ s license with the State of Hawaii.
Current certification from the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence(ASE) which includes six (6) certifications from the light series and four (4)certifications from the heavy series (two of the heavy certifications must be in the brake and suspension categories) and five (5) years experience as a registered/certified mechanic.
NOTE: This position has been established to provide professional advancement opportunities for the Fleet Operation’ s personnel holding the Mechanic job classification. Individuals shall be placed into this classification, upon notification to the Company, that they have obtained the specified ASE certifications and have met all other qualifications in accordance with this job description.
Pay Range: $21.05 – $40.73
