This is such a common phenomenon for students. In fact, it is so common that professionals in counseling, career services, student development, and career coaches lean on the work of Nancy Schlossberg to help students and clients dealing with difficult transitions. Schlossberg formalized how we think about transitions in her Transition Theory, which she developed in the 1990s. The theory essentially puts transitions into 3 buckets – planned events, unplanned events, and the nonevent.
